FSU Birthday and Go For The Gold

Posted on

I’m totally hooked on Sandy Allnock’s free class this week called Go for the Gold.  A million different kinds of beautiful rich ways to use gold products in upcoming holiday cards.  Or – birthday cards!

This class couldn’t have come at a better time.  I was struggling with a birthday card for my best friend’s son.  He’s in his second year at FSU.  I wanted to try to make some kind of college-color based theme and masculine cards are hard for me at the best of times.

After watching Day 1 of class, I had a brainstorm.  FSU colors are black, garnet and – wait for it – GOLD!  I used Amber Gold and Graphite Ferro by Viva, smooshing it around to make a random mix and then after letting it dry, I ran it thru my We R Memory Keepers Next Level weave embossing folder. If you haven’t seen how these emboss in person, you’re missing something amazing.  The “happy” is a die from Winnie & Walter (covered in glossy accents), the small birthday tag is from the latest My Favorite Things release.  I smooshed Gold Delicata ink on an acrylic block and painted with a wet brush around the tiny birthday panel and then cut it out with the matching die.  I admit I cheated and used plain old gold paper that I had in my “shiny” drawer to mat the red.

There.  A masculine, school-color based birthday card – using GOLD!

Have a lovely day everyone!  Looking forward to Day 4 of class and hoping I don’t have to go BACK to Ellen Hutson and buy more product.
